About Me
À Propos de Moi - Version Française
自我介绍 - 中文译本
Hello! I'm Michael, a student and problem-solver drawn to the world of electronics and the power of electricity.
Here in Greater Philadelphia, I learned how to manage people and projects through Boy Scouts, my biggest extracurricular throughout high school. I developed a passion for the outdoors and the original ideals Scouting stands for, which go far further than survival skills. As Senior Patrol Leader, I led my 65- scout troop by building systems: implementing planning meetings with my leadership team and delegating specific responsibilities for each weekly troop meeting, communicating information among both adults and youth, or managing campout logistics from events to drivers to foodbuyers. I had to learn the hard way how to serve others, struggling behind the scenes to make it easy for each member to accomplish their duty, in order to achieve our troop's ambitious projects. Did you know we lashed a fully functional ferris wheel out of just wood spars and rope? Our troop loves pioneering projects, and we did this on top of running a quasi-fast food station for a local charity event at the airport, where every detail of food delivery, grilling, food prep, point of sale, was accounted for, all scout-led of course.
Beyond Scouting, I also enjoy playing keeping active with volleyball, badminton, and playing the cello. I'm also an avid orienteer (what is orienteering?) and a huge penguin-lover. But languages have been another prominent figure in my life; I've spent so much time learning both spoken and silent languages. In elementary school, half my day was spent learning math and science in French, and now I am up to B2 (upper-intermediate) level. While I once dreaded my forsaken Chinese school homework, I'm now determined to study diligently and pridefully to improve my skills and understand my heritage. Then came sign language, as I wanted to learn simple greetings to welcome a visiting deaf scout, and just continued to gain more knowledge. Finally, I have recently embarked on learning Levantine Arabic.
I wish to continue to learn languages not only to gain new perspectives on the world, but to communicate with diverse peoples in professional settings as well as exploring their respective cultures. After high school, I seek to use my language skills to strengthen my interests in the intersection of business and electrical engineering and how they serve to solve real-world logistical problems, using languages, music, sports, to shape how I connect with other people, whether it be across a net or across oceans.
